The bishop’s see was relocated to Brixen in 960. Only in 1699, the monastery was exalted to an abbey. In 1974, the monastery was included in the Beuronen congregation. The contemplative Benedictine nuns live in strict conclave and welcome pilgrims and guests in the summer. The garden, agriculture, orchards and the guesthouse are used by the nuns to finance their livings.
The monastery Kloster Säben above Klausen in the valley Eisacktal. In the 6th century this has already been the see of the bishop. The hill of the monastery had already been settled on in the Neolithic Age. Later, the hill was conquered by late Roman settlements.
