Informationen zu Lourdes church – Laas
Wide meadows encircle the pilgrimage church “Unsere Liebe Frau von Lourdes”. It is located eas of Laas, directly near the main road of the valley Vinschgau. The small, neo-Romanic building with its round tower and the pointy roof attracts many visitors.
A dramatic history is hid behind this idyllic small church. There used to be a bridge over the stream at this point. In 1885 a cart fell down the slope at exactly this point. The widow of the man, who died, Benedict Edler Ritter von Vintschgau aus Meran, built a chapel for his commemoration. A marble board over the entrance reminds of these tragic happenings.
The church was built in 1895 and inaugurated only one year later. The grotto at the high altar was made of onyx-stones from the nearby mountain Sonnenberg. The statue of Maria is located in it.
A long and dramatic history is hid behind this small church in the valley Vinschgau.
