Seventh Hike on the Horseshoe Trail in the Sarntal Alps

Eine Hüttenwanderung vom Eisacktal hinüber ins Meraner Land mit der Kurstadt Meran als Endpunkt des mehrtägigen Trekkings, die im Schnittpunkt vom Vinschgau, Passeiertal und Etschtal liegt. Wir überschreiten die südlichen Sarntaler Alpen von Osten nach Westen. Beinahe ständig haben wir fantastisches Bergpanorama, vornehmlich die Dolomiten, vor Augen. Abwechslungsreich ist die Strecke allemal. Zirbenwälder zu Anfang. Felsige, teilweise steile Pfade wechseln sich mit Bergwegen über ausgedehnte Almen ab. Kultur am Wegesrand wie das Latzfonser Kreuz und die Stoanernen Mandln sind das Salz in der Suppe. Nicht zu vergessen, die urigen Berghütten und der gemütlich Ort Sarnthein der vielerlei Abwechslung bietet.

From Franzensfeste we walk along the reservoir of the same name up to the Upper Fortress and on to Lake Vahrner See. On the Keschtnweg we reach Klausen, our destination for the day.

Der Südalpenweg führt an Österreichs Südgrenze entlang von Bad Radkersburg nach Sillian und mit einer Verlängerungsvariante bis nach Bozen.  Ich bin den Weg andersrum gegangen, bin also in Bozen gestartet, über die Sarntaler Alpen nach Brixen gewandert und dann über die Pragser und die Sextener Dolomiten nach Sexten. Von dort ging es über den Karnischen Höhenweg über die Karnischen Alpen und in die Karawanken hinein.
