Informationen zu Latemar (mountain)

The Latemar mountain range lies on the border between South Tyrol and the Trentino and this range is the least accessed of the Dolomites. The highest of these mountains is the Großer Latemarturm (large tower of the Latemar), also Diamantiditurm, with 2842 m of height. The peaks of this mountain group consist of dolomite rocks from the mountain Schlern and the marine denomination is not by chance. Because of the marine origin of the sediments you can find fossils, mostly ammonites and shells. First to surmount the peaks of the Latermar was G. Euringer (1884). The alpine hut of the Latemar opened in 1980. Since 2009, the Latermar and the entire Dolomites are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
