Summer or winter, it doesn’t matter: this refuge gives its best in the afternoon just before sunset when the sun's rays light up the great west wall of the Roda di Vaèl in the Catinaccio group, a phenomenon known as the Enrosadira. The Rifugio Paolina - above Passo Costalunga - is one of the best places to watch the Enrosadira on the rock face that has sorely tested the abilities of many famous rock climbers in the Dolomites. The Refuge is at the top station of the chairlift and is popular with walkers in summer and with skiers from the Carezza ski area in winter. Open From 20 June to 20 September From early December to early April Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks From the Rifugio Paolina it’s an easy walk to the Rifugio Roda Di Vaèl, taking less than an hour on an easy footpath. It also takes an hour (heading north) to get to the Rifugio Fronza (difficulty E). A very long and challenging circular walk, which can also be broken up into two days, is the Giro del Catinaccio, which goes by way of the Rifugio Fronza, Passo Santner, Passo delle Cigolade and the Rifugio Roda Di Vaèl.
