The high path to the statue of Christo Pensante on the Monte Castellazzo, between the Fleimstal/Val di Fiemme Valley and Primiero is non-negotiable.

Directions

The spectacular view from this unique elevation is truly fantastic: the untouched valley Val Venegia, run through by the river Travignolo, the scattered alps along the meadows on the pass Rolle and the steep peaks of the Pale di San Martino are only some of the images, likely to be captured on photos. You park your car on the parking area close to the pass Rolle (1980 m). Continuing on the mildly steep path, you reach the hut Capanna Cervino (1082 m, 25 minutes). The path already offers some nice views and leads across meadows and pastures, reaching the alp Segantini (2174 m) at the feet of the peak Cimon delle Pala. Those who are truly lazy or those who use this alp as a starting point for another tour can reach this place also by using the bus (information in the tourist’s office Fleimstal/Val di Fiemme). After a short break for the important photos, you continue on SAT no. R01 in the direction of the “Thinking Christ” (Cristo Pensante).

The path to the summit of the Monte Castellazzo (2333 m) is partly very narrow, steep and on parts a little exposed. Therefore, you should always keep an eye on your child. Especially the final track is even more challenging, made less bad by the blooming rhododendrons and the narration of some exciting stories. Reaching the peak after 1.15 hours from the alp Segantini, you can now admire the giant cross closely, as well as the statue of the thinking Christ. The work of art, made by the sculptor Paolo Lauron, is meant to be an invitation to meditate. You should become aware of your own time, forgetting the fast pace of your daily routines and enjoying the mesmerizing scenario, offered by nature itself. The idea of this hike by Pino Dallasega, made in collaboration of the tourist-societies of the Fleimstal/Val di Fiemme, S. Martin di Castrozza, pass Rolle and Vanoi as well as the National Park Paneveggio Pale di San Martino, is meant to be an invitation, especially for younger people, to come closer to the mountains and find back to trust in silence and the own inner peace. After having relaxed both body and soul and to escape the crowded place, you descent on the steep gravelled path, to reach the hut Capanna Cervino, where you can enjoy the well-deserved lunch. The hike comes to its end but the family will never forget the magical images and experiences of this day.
