Through a crack in the rock you will reach a unique archaeological site

From the car park take an easy uphill mule track, almost a dirt road in its first stretch. It is signposted with a red and white marker – the number of the itinerary is 401. The trail goes comfortably up, with views opening onto the valley of Lanaitho and the mountains of Oliena to the west, over the furrow of the Corojos gorge that runs along the terrace on which you walk down. On the left, the top of Mount Tiscali stands just behind a curtain of yellowish walls. Continue onto the terrace – even when the path narrows. Then, close to two large grey boulders, turn left and you will find an uphill path. The trail winds its way up steeply and leads to a landslide, sharply pointing to a (seemingly insurmountable) wall of yellow rock. Here you will see a slit cutting through the wall. Walk in, on a path marked by millennia of passages and known as Sa Curtigia. At the end of the crevice, walk along a ledge with a splendid view of Corojos and the mountains, gradually descending along the ridge line and then turning right along the edge of the dolina – where it was built at the village. You can reach the entrance of the cave in a few steps, adding something to your visit to the site (fee-paying, including guide). At the exit you can retrace your steps or make the ring as suggested here. We then proceed northwards, leaving the fork on the left to return to Sa Curtigia and starting to descend steeply, southeast – on a wide rocky terrace with beautiful views of the Sovana valley and the area of Sas Traes. You will reach a junction where you turn left, continuing to descend with small hairpin bends and then on a straight path and again northwards. You will then reach a wide clearing where you will see another junction. Go straight on, ignoring a further detour to the right and taking a mule track. This runs along the banks of a dry stream. Walk down there only for a short stretch, coping with the boulders. Shortly after the mule track, the trail continues on the right-hand side of the stream, which winds itself downhill – to the bottom of the valley – with a couple of hairpin bends. Continue north, reaching a dirt road and a fork. Here turn left, going back southwest, on a good dirt road – up to the place from where you started.

Public transportation

Bus service to Oliena or Su Gologone.

From the village of Oliena drive down the provincial road 46 in the direction of Dorgali, following the signs for Hotel Ristorante Su Gologone and turning towards the accommodation on a pved road. Follow it past the Hotel Ristorante Su Gologone, after which, at the end of a short descent, there is a junction. Turn right onto a paved road, continuing on the carriageable road overlooking the valley of Cedrino. With a turn you reach the valley of Lanaitho, proceeding on the dirt road until you reach a junction. Take the dirt road on the left fording a small creek (water present only during floods . in this case it is impossible to go beyond it!). You will see a second crossroads, at which you keep left again. Numerous minor deviations are ignored, keeping the left again after yet another small creek, slightly uphill under the forest. The road bends in the direction of - the now quite visible - Monte Tiscali, making a big bend near a steep clearing just before resuming the north direction. In the clearing you can leave your car, taking care not to hinder the transit of other cars.
