Directions
Hiking around Rodengo (Rodenegg) Castle Hike in the area of the Gola della Rienza (Rienzschlucht) Gorge is a great experience, even in unpredictable weather. Drive towards Bressanone (Brixen) and turn right at the gas station, towards Luso-Croce (Lüsen-Kreuz), and continue to the Kreuzplon parking area (884 m). After Kreuzplonhof Farm, turn right uphill to the Kreuzstöckl Chapel (984 m). From there, hike along easy forest trails north until you reach the hamlet of Spisses and the road to Vill, via Gifen. Rodengo Castle, a medieval structure with frescoes depicting the Legend of Iwein; guided tours at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Return to Luson (Lüsen) on the same route.
Variante
Extended gorge hike: near the entrance to Rodengo (Rodenegg) Castle, turn right and follow the path leading down into Gola della Rienza (Rienzschlucht) Gorge, which takes you to the covered Rundlbrücke Bridge (625 m). The path, which begins ascending again near what was formerly the power station of Bressanone (Brixen), leads to Rundlhof Farm. Follow the route that branches off to the left at the chapel, first a pathway and later a forest road, to Fiumes (Viums) at 890 m. Head west for a bit, and then south on dirt roads, through a biotope, and finally to Naz. From the village square, head east, returning towards the Gola della Rienza and an arched bridge (Bogenbrücke). Ascending again, we arrive at Niederst Tavern; follow the road (Hofweg) back to the parking lot at Kreuzplon (884 m). 650 metres altitude differential; 16 km long; 5.5 hrs
