Open the Route PlannerHikes to Lake Durnholz
Wonderful hiking trails and walking tours lead through idyllic mountain villages such as Pens or Durnholz, where there are two gems to discover. At the fairytale lake in Durnholz, nature lovers and those interested in culture as well as those seeking relaxation will get their money's worth.
In the summer months, you can fish on the shores and enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the natural landscape. A short walk will take you to the parish church, whose uncovered frescoes are well worth seeing. Both the lake and the church are suitable motifs for taking a nice photo. This way friends and family can see how eventful hiking in the Sarntal valley is.
Hikes and mountain tours around the Sarntal valley
Well-signposted hiking trails lead steeply up to the Sarner Scharte. To climb this mountain, you need to be in very good physical condition. On your hikes you will pass sights steeped in history such as the Totenkirchl from the 16th century, the Rheinswälder mills as well as the gallery entrance of the Ribner-Seeberg. After the strenuous climb to the 2,458-metre summit, you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the entire valley. If you want to indulge in South Tyrolean culinary delicacies, hike to the Auener Alm, which is located above the Sarner ski hut. From there, it takes about half an hour to reach the rustic, cosy alp.
The 2,460-metre-high Sattele is also recommended for a hike in the Sarntal Alps. Several peaks and the pilgrimage church at the Latzfonser Kreuz await you on this loop. With a length of around 13 kilometres, you should be in good shape, but you will be rewarded with wonderful views.
