Directions

Starting at the Madonna di Pietralba (Maria Weißenstein) sanctuary (1,520 m, large parking area), follow trail markings (No. 2) along a forest road through the woods in a very easy, downhill slope crossing until you reach a small stream with a bridge, which you cross. Head across forested slopes towards Petersberger Leger (1,529 meters; simple food service; 45 minutes from Madonna di Pietralba). From there, follow clear trail markings for (L) and signs for Laabalm. At first, there is almost no path, then there is a footpath, which is mostly almost flat, leading through the woods. You’ll reach Laabalm alpine farm in about an hour (1,648 m; busy restaurant). From there, follow signs for Neuhütt and trail markings (No. 1) along footpaths and tractor trails: you’ll pass through some alpine meadows, larch meadows and a pine forest, sometimes with a slight grade and sometimes flat, along the hike to the Neuhütte mountain hut (1,791 m; no food service; 1.5 hours from Laabalm). The last segment runs along Trail No. 2, following signs for Petersberger Alm through the forest; the grade is sometimes steep but mostly moderate. Continue back down to Petersberger Leger and then all the way back to Madonna di Pietralba.
