Plan de Corones: plenty of space for hikes

Kronplatz is the most famous mountain in the Pulstertal in South Tyrol. It is located on the edge of the Dolomites and gives its name to the entire holiday region. It appeals to a wide audience with its rich offers at any time of the year. While in summer numerous hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty are spread throughout the region, in winter there are a whole 119 km of ski slopes including an excellent infrastructure with numerous ski lifts. Plan de Corones itself comes to an altitude of 2,275 m and is located on the territory of the municipalities of Brunico, Enneberg and Valdaora, which meet on the summit plateau.

Note: even if there is snow in winter, Kronplatz is interesting for hiking tours. Throughout the region, winter hiking trails are established and maintained, which can be hiked even without snowshoes, poles and helmet. So if you want to take it more leisurely even in the cold season, you will find the appropriate hiking trails in St. Lorenzen, in the Gnieser Tal valley or near Rasen in the Antholzertal valley, for example.

Hikes around Kronplatz

The path to the Klammbach waterfall is the ideal start for a hike with the whole family. Although the distance from Antholz Mittertal is only 1.7 km, more than 250 meters of altitude have to be overcome on the way, which, however, lead along well-maintained roads and forest paths. The viewing platform offers an excellent view of both the waterfall itself and the Antholz valley. If you wish, you can continue hiking from here to the Berger Alm, where you can treat yourself to a well-deserved snack.
Those who like to combine hiking with cultural activities on walking routes will enjoy the large castle circuit. The 6 km long circular route leads along old paths from the Welsberg tourist office to Welsperg Castle. In the summer months, the well-renovated castle is often the venue for exhibitions, concerts and festivals.

Hikers looking for routes with a sporting challenge will find exactly that in the 11 summit tour. The name already suggests that this route has plenty of altitude to offer. An impressive 3,139 meters in elevation have to be overcome - and these are spread over a distance of more than 32 kilometers. An appropriate stamina is a precondition if you want to reach the highest point of the route, the Rotwand, at 2,218 meters. The good 12-hour hike requires surefootedness and endurance, but beyond that does not pose any significant technical requirements.
