A nice hike leading from alpine pasture to peak: to Tesselberger Alm and to Schönbichl Peak above the Brunico (Bruneck) Basin in Val Pusteria (Pustertal) Valley.

Directions

Approach is from Percha in the Upper Val Pusteria (Pustertal) Valley: drive along a good road (8 km) up to Tesselberg (1,473 m; inn; parking). From there, you walk along Trail No. 7A, which is broad and runs through the forest moderately uphill, to the Tesselberger Alm alpine farm (2,128 m; just under 2 hours; serves food). Then continue on Trail No. 7A east up slopes covered with alpine roses, until you reach a broad flat ridge known as Hühnerspiel, under Schönbichl Peak, and follow marked traces of the trail up steeply to the summit (2,452 m; about 1 to 1.5 hours from the Alm). Recommended descent (for somewhat experienced hikers): From the summit of Schönbichl Peak, stay with the well-marked route, initially along the steep northern ridge (a short steeper section is secured) a bit down, and then cross some rocky slopes with some gentle ups and downs, over to Korspitze Peak (2,437 m; some maps indicate the route too low). From there, continue following trail markings down the southern ridge and then branch off to the left down to the pasture; about 1.5 to 2 hours from Schönbichl Peak. Or go down the way you came up.
