This beautiful circular hike in the centre of the Catinaccio/Rosengarten Group leads from Paolina Alpine Hut across Vaiolon Pass to the Rifugio Roda di Vaèl/Rotwandhütte mountain cottage and back on Sentiero del Masaré/Hirzelweg Trail.

The valley station of a fairly modern chair lift, which takes you up to Rifugio Paolina (2,127 m), is located a few hundred metres below the Passo di Costalunga (Karer) Pass. From here, well-marked Trail No. 552 leads north. The trail crosses three consecutive valleys. At a small waterfall (2,175 m) there is a junction, and the trail begins to ascend. At the next junction (2,190m), avoid Trail No. 9 to Moseralm, and stay on the trail you've been following so far.  The path takes you up through  rocky terrain until, at 2,200 metres, you reach Trail M549, marked Hirzelweg. The path now goes steeply up the mountain and leads in narrow switchbacks across pebbles and scree up to Vaiolon Pass.  Right before the pass, you have to cross a rocky ledge: this poses the only technical challenge of the hike, but is easily crossed using the fixed iron ladder. After another stretch, you'll arrive at Vaiolon Pass (2,560 m); walking time from Rifugio Paolina up to this point is approximately 1 3/4 hours. At this point, the descent begins, at first moderately into a rocky valley at the base of Coronelle Crest, then southbound into a canyon. Above the Rifugio Roda di Vaél (Rotwandhütte) mountain inn, the path joins with Trail No. 541 coming down from Cigolade Pass. Keep descending across Alpine meadows down to the Alpine inn (2,280 m) and enjoy the splendid view of the Dolomiti di Fassa Mountains and the Fassa Valley. A broad, comfortable trail goes on to the next mountain hut, Rifugio Pederiva. About a hundred yards east, is a good point to take a rest: with a little luck, you might spot a couple of marmots in Paschè Valley.  After a short walk, the trail arrives at the monument for Theodor Christomannos: a three-metre high eagle statue made of bronze. Enjoy the view of the valleys of Fassa and Eggen before taking Hirzelweg Trail (No. 539) down to Rifugio Paolina, where the chair lift takes you back to the Costalunga (Karer) Pass.

Super Tour.

Giro bellissimo e panoramico in ogni momento! Attenzione in data giugno 2017 una parte del sentiero che porta al passo vaiolon è dismesso è pericoloso da fare ( in particolare se si percorre in discesa). Aggiungo che Per via della scaletta non è possibile percorrerlo con cani!
