This trail runs from the Edelrauthütte mountain hut to Rifugio Porro. There are very few high trails that run so close to a glacier as this one does.

Directions

Ascent: Start out at the north shore of the Lago di Neves (Neves Stausee) Reservoir (1,860 m; approach is via a narrow asphalt road from Lappach; 1 hour on foot). Take Trail No. 24 to the east, which ascends steeply through forest up to the tree line and then less steeply via the Nevesalm alpine pastures to the Rifugio Porro al Passo di Neves (Chemnitzer Hütte am Nevesjoch) mountain hut (2,419 metres; also labelled Nevesjochhütte on maps, operating in summer); a good 1.5 hours from the reservoir. High Trail: from Rifugio Porro al Passo di Neves, follow Trail No. 1 along the Alta Via di Neves (Neveser Höhenweg) high trail, initially northwestward at a moderate grade and then a short descent to the effluent of the eastern Nevesferner glacier (small bridge). From there, it is nearly flat for the most part, with only one steep grade, continuing over flat ground and across steep slopes in a long hike west/southwest; the terrain is sometimes rocky and sometimes grassy (a rocky point is equipped with a safety tether) and there are several streams to be crossed. The high trail ends at the Rifugio Ponte di Ghiaccio (Edelrauthütte) mountain hut in Eisbruggjoch (2545 m; also labelled as Eisbruggjochhütte on maps; operating in summer) 3 hours from Rifugio Porro al Passo di Neves. Descent: From Rifugio Ponte di Ghiaccio, follow Trail No. 26 eastwards through the little Pfeifholder Valley, sometimes over boulders, sometimes across grassland. The final segment is a brief hike through the forest, down an intermediate grade, back to Lago di Neves; 1.5 hours from the hut.
