Partly at the tree line, sometimes a bit higher, the Alto Via di Bressanone (Brixner Höhenweg) cuts through steep slopes almost horizontally.

Ascent: Start from the village of Sant'Andrea in Monte (Ladin: St.Andrä), above Bressanone (Brixen) at 960 m (the asphalt road arrives here from Bressanone up past Milland), at the valley station of the Plose cable car. Take it up to the ridge saddle of Kreuztal (2,040 m; tavern; 3 hours on foot: Trail No. 5 and then No. 17 through steep, wooded slopes). High Trail: From Kreuztal, follow Trail No. 30, first briefly uphill and then continuing nearly flat, crossing the steep slopes around the forest line (beautiful stand of Swiss stone pine) north to Ochsenalm (2,066 m, tavern); just under 2 hrs from Kreuztal. Descent: From Ochsenalm, follow Route No. 6 across pastureland and through woods, down a slight grade, to Ackerboden, a mountain meadow framed by forest (1,753 m, tavern). Continue on Trail No. 6, partially on a footpath, partially on a road through forest and meadows, and finally past some farms and down to the village of San Leonardo (St. Leonhard) at 1,095 metres; 1.5 hours from Ochsenalm. From there, briefly along the road and then along a forest path that runs alongside the road (marked and signposted) on a flat hike back to Sant'Andrea in Monte (960 m); 2.5 hours from Ochsenalm.
