Hikes on the Alpe di Siusi

The 450 kilometers of hiking trails of the Alpe di Siusi offer hikes for every level. From the simple mountain hut trip or pleasure hike at the foot of the Dolomites to the summit hike on the Sciliar, Sassolungo, Sassopiatto and Catinaccio. While you need climbing skills for the Sassolungo, you can manage hiking routes on the Sassopiatto even without. Nevertheless, the paths, especially on the summit ridge, are very demanding and you need a good physical condition and surefootedness.

The difficult, eight-kilometer-long direct route from the top station of the Florian lift has a walking time of about three hours.On the summit you can expect a sensational view into the valley, over the Alpe di Siusi and up to the Ötztal and Ortler Alps. If you have enough time and stamina, but don't necessarily want to climb the peak itself, you can hike all the way around the Sassolungo massif in 8 hours. The circumnavigation is a classic among the hikes in the Dolomites and offers fantastic views, famous huts and well-marked trails. If you book a place to sleep in one of the huts early enough, you can also extend the hike to two days.

A popular, technically easy but somewhat demanding circular hike leads from the panoramic mountain station Rosszahnscharte to the Tierser Alpl hut with return via the Mahlknechthütte. The Tierser Alpl refuge is a popular meeting place and here you can also enjoy specialties of South Tyrolean cuisine and local wine. The hut is located 2,440 meters high in the heart of the Rosszähne, a jagged rock formation with a peculiar appearance reminiscent of a horse's teeth. The route has a walking time of just over five hours. The trails on the Alpe di Siusi are particularly beautiful in early summer, when the alpine roses are in bloom.

While hiking on the Alpe di Siusi, you can experience the indescribably beautiful nature and rich flora and fauna of the South Tyrolean Dolomites, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on all hikes. The idyllic villages on the Alpe di Siusi are the ideal starting point for hikes and walking routes. The villages are close to each other and are connected by public bus lines. From Bolzano, Chiusa and Bressanone you can reach the region in about 30 minutes. The beautiful villages of Fiè allo Sciliar and Siusi allo Sciliar are located at the foot of Mount Sciliar, which is the landmark of South Tyrol because of its characteristic shape. Situated a bit south at the Tierser Valley you will find Tiers am Rosengarten with the legendary Rosengarten Group. Here, in the evening at sunset, the pale Dolomite rocks glow fantastically red.

The moderate climate in the Dolomites promises around 300 days of sunshine a year. This makes hiking on the Alpe di Siusi from March to November a dreamlike experience. Surrounded by a majestic panorama you can spend your vacation in the charming villages on the Alpe di Siusi.
