Start at the Gasserhütte Tavern (1,744 m; large parking area), which can be accessed on a good road from Chiusa (Klausen) via Villandro (Villanders). Head briefly in the direction of the Moar-in-Plun-Alm alpine farm, and then turn right at the sign for Jausenstation Rinderplatz; it’s almost flat from there to the Am Rinderplatz Tavern (1,799 m). From that point on, the trail is broad and well marked, going briefly through a forest, towards the Moar-in-Plun-Hütte mountain hut, and then to the right, partly flat and partly slightly uphill, across open pastureland to the large, widely visible Stöfflhütte mountain hut (2,057 m); about 2 hours from the starting point. To return to the starting point, you can either retrace your route (about 1.5 hours) or opt for the following route: From the Stöfflhütte mountain hut, head towards Latzfonser Kreuz for a little while, until you reach an elevated pasture (Gfoller, 2,120 m). Turn left along a good trail that leads you over to Trail No. 1 (2,107 m), Turn left onto it and head south across the swampy Mooswiesen (a large marshland with plank bridges in places, and otherwise only a wet swampy trail marked by stakes) until you reach a dry path that leads to the little Totenkirchlein Church (about 2,070 m; slightly above the Pfroder-Alm Tavern). Follow this trail back east to the Plun-in-Moar-Alm pastures and to the Gasserhütte mountain hut; 2.5 to 3 hours from Stöfflhütte.
