Informationen zu Heiligkreuzkofel (mountain)
The mountain Heiligkreuzkofel is located in the Fanes mountain range in the Dolomites of the valley Gadertal. Its walls are very impressive and very famous for alpine climbers. The famous explorers Reinhold and Günther Messner were the first to surmount the “Mittelpfeiler” (the median pillar) in 1968, being one of the most difficult routes to exist (UIAA-scale VII+). Other famous alpinists left their traces on these steep slopes, for example Heinz Mariacher, Christoph Hainz, Luisa Lovane, Albert Precht. Just below the western wall lies the pilgrimage church Heilig Kreuz (holy cross). Some hiking tours lead to the peak where you can enjoy the heavenly panorama over the surrounding area.
