Discover the region
By the way, Bolzano and environs are a huge outdoor fitness centre: Whether hiking, cycling, mountain biking or climbing – here absolutely everyone has the opportunity to become active according to their wishes.
In and around the capital of South Tyrol
The city of Bolzano (Bozen) is just as diverse as the region that surrounds it. The cityscape is characterised by Mediterranean palm and cypress gardens, while at the same time the Rosengarten massif, glowing in the evening sun, rises in the background. Romantic leafy alleys, elegant boutiques, artistic facades and extraordinary cultural offerings – find all this and much more in Bolzano. Of course, the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is also worth a visit, where the over 5,000-year-old glacier mummy Ötzi and his findings are on display.
Active throughout the year
At night it's still freezing cold, but as soon as the first rays of sunshine fall on Bolzano and environs in the morning, it's time for outdoor sports enthusiasts to get going. When you leave the city, you immediately find yourself in a unique natural landscape with numerous promenades that invite you to take a walk. Whether in the sunny Überetsch or on the south-facing high plateaus on the Ritten, Salten and Regglberg: here you will find pleasant temperatures and the best conditions to get fit for the coming season.
The warmer it gets, the more possibilities there are for extended hikes and mountain bike tours: from the valley floor you can now head up into the low mountain range, onto the plateaus and, from early summer, also to the highest peaks. But that's not the end of it: until shortly before the first snow, the colourful vineyards invite you to discover and enjoy. And so Bolzano and environs, with long-distance and high-altitude trails, themed trails for young and old, easy and difficult peaks, have rewarding destinations to offer all year round at every altitude and mood.
Culinary delights in South Tyrol
South Tyrolean cuisine is known far beyond its borders. Excellent wines and alpine-Mediterranean cuisine offer pleasure for the eyes and the palate all year round. A successful blend of traditional culinary art and upscale gastronomy now combines Schlutzkrapfen, Speckknödel and co. with exciting elements from haute cuisine – and you should definitely try it.
So, let's go there! Because even if you already know the region: Bolzano and environs surprise again and again with a combination of nature and culture, art and hidden treasures.
