Informationen zu South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology

The story of the Iceman – also known as Ötzi – and his original artefacts can be viewed on three floors of the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. The upper floor houses an archaeological exhibition that changes every year.

From 25 February 2014 to 22 February 2015 the Museum will be hosting a special exhibition entitled FROZEN STORIES – Discoveries in the Alpine glaciers. Climate change also plays a role in archaeology. It brings to light objects that have long been hidden in the glacier ice. Ötzi isn’t the only lucky find of the past few decades. Many other objects have surfaced that tell us exciting stories about the past. And every new finding poses the same question: over the millennia, what drove these people onto the glaciers?

"Ötzi", the man (3,300 BC) from the ic, takes the central position in the Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano.
