Informationen zu Cantina Bolzano
The Lagrein, a local wine variety of Alto Adige, deserved to be kept in a cellar and marketed. This conviction led to a successful decision. Business boomed, particularly after World War Two when the Gries cellar established itself on the market with its Lagrein rosé. This wasn’t the case in the 1970s and 1980s, as they proved to be difficult decades. It was then that the cantina decided to change its production strategy, favouring quality over quantity. Sales, and in particular of the main Lagrein wine, increased considerably and consistently, and won the cantina numerous awards year after year.
In 2001 the Gries and Santa Maddalena cellars merged. The "new" cantina is now called Cantina Bolzano. The St. Maddalena wine shop, an additional outlet of the Cantina Bolzano, is located on the east side of Bolzano, in via Brennero, below the vine-covered hills of the Santa Maddalena.
The wine shop/winery of the Cantina Bolzano is the ideal place to appreciate the wine “in situ” and to sample the different varieties of both the Gries and the Santa Maddalena wineries
The Cantina Bolzano was established in 1908 when the Gries wine growers decided to form a wine-making cooperative. Since then it has enjoyed a long history of success.
The pleasure of wine in the heart of Gries
In total there are over 300 hectares (between 200 and 700 metres above sea level) in the Bolzano area which are dedicated to grape growing. The soft, sandy soils and moraine sediments facilitate the growth of healthy vines. The companies supplying the delicious “raw materials” to the cantina are distributed between Gries and the vine-covered hills of the Santa Maddalena, which makes for distinctive, fine wines. Ten years’ experience in wine refining and numerous awards received are a good reason to visit the winery of Cantina Bolzano in the Gries area. Excellent wines bearing grand names such as Lagrein"Taber", Cuvée "Mauritius" or Merlot "Settequerce" will delight the palate of wine lovers who will sample them and buy a few bottles to take home.
Intense rubin red. When you enjoy a Lagrein, a high-quality wine from Alto Adige, it is truly a delightful experience.
Different preservation, fermentation, and manufacturing techniques can create different wine specialities from the same vine. In the wine cellar of the Cantina Bolzano in Gries you can sample some of these speciality wines. For example, you can find, shake and sample a Cabernet "Otto Graf Huyn" Reserve or a Lagrein Collection "Baron Carl Eyrl". Classic white wines, crisp and fruity, and full-bodied reds make this wine cellar a meeting point for wine connoisseurs in the Bolzano area
Craftsmanship, art, pleasure. All in one glass of wine.
