Bicycle tours in Nationalpark Hohe Tauern

  A 340-kilometre cycle tour to the most beautiful lakes in Austria’s southernmost province

Since time immemorial, the Alps have held an incomparable fascination for people. Though for centuries a terrifying place of perils and legends, the hikers and bikers of today love and yearn for this mighty rock edifice, filled with so much magic and beauty. With the new north-south crossing from Salzburg to Venice, a long-cherished dream finally comes to fruition.        

  The River Drava Cycle Trail is one of just four cycle trails in Europe to be awarded five stars by the ADFC (German Cyclists’ Association). It is the poster child of the cycling region of Carinthia and crosses several borders on its way from South Tyrol (Toblach) to Legrad in Croatia, passing through East Tyrol, Carinthia and Slovenia.

Auf der zweiten Etappe haben Sie ca. 70 Rad-Kilometer vor sich, vorbei an malerischen Kirchen, Ruinen und der römischen Ausgrabungsstätte Aguntum. Der Radweg ist bereits gut ausgebaut und verläuft bis Oberdrauburg entlang der Drau. Ab Oberdrauburg entfernt sich der Radweg immer wieder vom Fluss.

  Day two of the Carinthian Lake Loop begins leisurely – but over the course of the day includes the most metres in altitude difference of the week. First you roll along the shores of Lake Millstätter See towards Seeboden, then down to the Drautal valley to Spittal.

Fünfter Tag der Fernradtour von München nach Grado und zweiter Tag auf dem AlpeAdria. Start ist in St. Johann und heute wartet die Königsetappe hinauf nach Bad Gastein, per Bahnverladung durch den Alpenhauptkamm und weiter bis Mühldorf.

 This stage begins in Gastein Valley or Mallnitz (depending on when you prefer to use the Tauernschleuse motorail service). After the Tauernschleuse, we find ourselves in Carinthia, one of Austria’s most important tourism regions, located on the southern side of the Alps. On this stage, the Alpe-Adria Bike Tour generally takes us through the Lower Mölltal valley, nestled amidst the some 3,000-meter tall mountains of the Reisseck Group to the north and the Kreuzeck Group to the south of the valley. Outstanding sightseeing attractions and rewarding stopping-off points include the town center of Obervellach, Falkenstein Castle, Bernitz Waterfall, the Reisseck and Kreuzeck lifts, Barbarossa Canyon, a rest area on the shores of the Möllstausee in Mühldorf, and the Teurinia Roman Museum outside Spittal. In the county seat of Spittal itself, we find beautiful Renaissance Schloss Porcia, the Museum of Folk Culture, and the always-popular town park.        

Sechster Tag der Fernradtour von München nach Grado und dritter Tag auf dem AlpeAdria. Start ist in Mühldorf im Mölltal und heute radeln wir gemütlich entlang Möll und Drau über Spittal bis nach Villach.

Erste Hälfte der Fünfländertour von Zernetz, Meran, Sterzing, Toblach nach Maribor. Zwei Pässe (Ofenpass und Jaufenpass) nachher gemütliches Radeln auf meist guten Radwegen in herrlicher Landschaft.

Der Alpe-Adria-Radweg erreicht Kärnten, von Salzburg kommend, mit dem Autoüberstellzug der ÖBB von Böckstein nach Mallnitz. Hier startet die genussvolle, weitgehend bergab führende Etappe durch das Untere Mölltal. Die Route folgt zunächst ca. 8 km der Bundesstraße von Mallnitz nach Obervellach, von dort dem Glockner-Radweg R8 bis Möllbrücke. Ab hier verläuft der Alpe-Adria-Radweg am berühmten Drauradweg  R1, dem Rad-Aushängeschild Kärntens. Achtung:  Die Alternative "Alte Bahntrasse" ist aufgrund von Bauarbeiten bis voraussichtlich zum Jahr 2024 gesperrt!Stand: Februar 2022
