A journey across the widest glacier of the South Tyrol

From Vipiteno we cross the entire Ridanna Valley – Ridnaun, to the last car park (1,417 m, Quarry Museum). Route 9 takes us up to the Aglsboden alpine hut (1,717 m, refreshments, Rifugio Grohmannhütte – Vedretta Piana (2,254 m, sleeps 10; 2:30 hours from the car park) and to the Rifugio Teplitzer Hütte – Vedretta Pendente (2,586 m, sleeps 50; 1 hour from the refuge). Route 9 continues on loose rocks and scree (with fixed ropes) beyond the moraine and crosses the glacier briefly, turning into a zigzag trail (with fixed ropes in parts) leading to the Rifugio Biasi al Bicchiere – Becher (3,195 m, sleeps 100; 2.30 hours from the Teplitzer Hut). We will head north descending to the col (3,156 m) and glacier, climbing up the steep and uneven trail of the mountain edge or ridge (fixed ropes in parts), leading to the signposted point (3,393 m), from where we quickly reach the cross on the summit (3,418 m, 1 hour walking time from the Rifugio Becher). Return via the same route.
